Zeal

zeal.vote / March 2019 - October 2019

I co-founded Zeal to modernize campaigns. Currently, campaigns often use pen and paper to collect data while campaigning, Zeal's goal was to make it easier to run campaigns (especially at the local level) but also provide additional insights through smart data collection. Throughout the process of finding our market, we talked to campaign managers, candidates and other members of campaign teams to find out what mattered to them. We used these insights to drive our MVP and design something easier to use than their current tools and help them run a campaign with less leg work. Zeal just launched so impact is still undecided, so this case study will be more of an overview of the design of the initial product.

The admin side of Zeal is all about data collection, slicing, and application. We wanted to make it easier to run these campaigns and see the efforts of the campaign volunteers in real-time.

OUtREach Campaigns

Outreach campaigns are the core of Zeal, they take scripts, objectives and segments and put them together to have a cohesive vision of the campaign. Diving into the details of an outreach campaign to find specifics.

Objectives

Objectives are trackable items that need to be completed in your campaign. You can track progress in getting them done or create new ones. Volunteers are automatically allocated to complete these tasks.

Lists & Segments

This is where all the raw data lives. The voter file is a record of everyone who is able to vote in the area. Candidates can then divide up their voter file into smaller, more targeted groups called segments. These can be as specific as your data allows. The voter file also updates with any data collected throughout the process

Scripts

In scripts, candidates and their teams can write out what they want volunteers to say. They also can create questions that only appear if a particular answer has been chosen. In this case, I have chosen to highlight the script builder. As you can see there are parts of the this that will be filled in based on who the volunteer is talking to. The actions tie into the objectives that your campaign might have.

Volunteer app

The volunteer side of Zeal is focused on making it easy and quick to help out on a campaign. The interface is friendly and easy to use while data that needs to go back to the team is standardized and able to translated into actions that the campaign itself can take. While canvassing or phone banking, the goal is to keep volunteers focused on the goal itself, minimizing distractions during.
